Volunteer Opportunities with ARF

What is the process for becoming a volunteer?

Volunteering is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

1- Submit your Application for Volunteer Interest form online

2- An ARF volunteer coordinator contacts you

3- A good fit is determined for specific interests and availability.

Upon receipt of your application, you will be automatically added to our email distribution list for news updates and announcements.

ARF's goal is to provide our rescue dogs with foster homes and/or the gentle care they deserve while they await their forever homes. ARF is fully aware that volunteer hours and interest can vary on an individual basis. As a result, ARF is committed to appointing those individuals who are truly interested in both educating the public and assisting the animals in finding their forever homes. Due to the fact that our organization is strictly volunteer based, we want everyone to know that we value your time as much as our own. Our volunteer application process is not to exclude, but to assist all of our willing applicants into finding avenues that best fit their desires and schedules.

"I am not a people person; I really just want to help with the animals"

You will be one of our most valued volunteers!  Our adoption facility, the ARFanage, is home to almost 40 dogs and as many cats.  The daily care of these rescues depends solely on volunteers.  While it is wonderful to be able to have an adoption facility, the number of volunteers required to run it is incredible.  Kennel care is the number one hands-on volunteer position we have and we are in immediate need of more volunteers in this area.

Volunteering for canine kennel care is very rewarding.  We are the ones that interact and care for the rescues and they depend and grow to love each of us.  The rescues are let out of their kennels 3 times a day and are allowed outside to run around and play.  They also love interacting and getting their dose of attention and play time with humans.  Kennel care volunteers also ensure that the kennels are clean and fresh food and water are provided.

Much of our interaction with the public involves getting to know people and exposing them to our wonderful available dogs. Tasks such as applicant screening, events, volunteer coordinating, home visits, phone interviews and even transports all involve the "people and communication element". In our line of rescue, people are a key resource and everything behind the scenes involves the flow of a solid volunteer engine.

The opportunities are vast here at ARF. Rescue work can be challenging, yet rewarding.

Below is a list and a short description of volunteer positions with ARF.

Fostering

Our adoption facility, the ARFanage can house up to 40 dogs and 20 cats. We heavily depend on foster homes for overflow as we are ALWAYS full at ARFanage.

Kennel Duty

This is one of the most hands-on positions we have.  At the ARFanage, you will assist with letting the dogs outside, cleaning their kennels and replenishing food and water. Dogs are let out in groups (predetermined by their behavior and temperament) into each of the two yards at our facility.  There are two shifts available for the Kennel Crew:  morning and evening shifts. Each shift takes approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete.  In addition to the morning and evening crew, we are also in need of help to let dogs outside during the mid-day. This shift’s responsibility consists mainly of giving the dogs some outside time to run and play. Cleaning and feeding is minimal. The ARFanage is home to approximately 20 cats also.  We have three different cat rooms and are always in need of help in this area as well.

Adoptions

ARF holds adoptions at Petsmart every 2nd and 4th Sat of each month from 10am to 3pm. This adoption requires the need for transporting, setting up cages and then breaking down cages and supplies at PetSmart.  With sometimes 20 or more of our rescues (dogs and cats) there is always help needed to assist while at the adoptions. In addition to the PetSmart adoption, we also have an adoption at the ARFanage every Saturday, 11-3.

Vet Transportation

Transport to vet as needed. ARF’s Spay and neuter days are Tuesday’s and Friday’s. Rescues are taken to the ARF designated vet by 8 am that morning and the rescues are then picked up by 5 pm the same day.

Amateur Photographer

Our pets are all listed on website which is linked to Petfinder and has become our biggest resource for placing our animals. We are looking for people who would like to help us out by visiting our facility and taking pictures of our new pets. A digital camera, the ability to email us pictures and some free time are all you need!
